By Mike Leone

August 21, 2014                 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Hartford, OH)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Sportsman Modifieds will return to Sharon Speedway this Saturday night (August 23) in an event that will feature a GM 602 engine giveaway from Sweeney/Pace Performance.  The event is part of the inaugural season for the GM 602 engine division on $135 Bilstein “sealed” spec shocks along with steel wheels on spec Hoosier Tires.

Saturday's race will be the fifth of the season at Sharon.  On August 9, Greg Martin became the first repeat winner joining wins by Jordan Eck and Rocky Kugel.  Series point leader, Adam Hilton of Buffalo, New York, has four victories in the region, but has yet to win at Sharon.  The last two Sharon events have attracted 11 cars each, which has been the record for the season.

A total of 23 different drivers in 17 different cars have participated in the 12 events to date.  Last Friday at Raceway 7, Dave Conant, Jr. made his second start of the season and backed up his win on July 4 at Lernerville Speedway.

All competing RUSH Sportsman Modified racers on Saturday will have a chance at winning the GM 602 engine valued at over $3,200.  RUSH member racers will receive a second chance at the drawing.

On the RUSH Late Model side, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC/Pace Performance has given away engines in the past four seasons to the following lucky racers: Paul Jablonski, Ben Black, Bobby Whitling, and Robby Marhefka.

"We can never thank Sweeney and Pace enough for their continued support of both of our programs," stated RUSH Co-Director Mike Leone.  "The Sportsman Modifieds inaugural season will feature a $10,000 plus point fund, Saturday's engine giveaway, a Manufacturers Night coming up on September 6 at Lernerville Speedway, and much more”.

“Although we had hoped for a few more cars competing in the class by this time we feel we have been successful in introducing the competitive Sportsman Modified concept to our region this season,” explained RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig.  “We continue to have strong support from the promoters of the speedways that have hosted events this year and they continue to express their strong feelings about the importance of this class in our region.  It has been both encouraging and exciting to continue to receive phone calls from interested and former Modified racers who are seriously considering returning to action in 2015 due to the development of this class.”

The Sweeney RUSH Sportsman Modifieds will make their second appearance at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 30.  Adam Hilton won the first event.  Following “Manufacturers Night” at Lernerville on September 6, the Mods will run a complete show on both Friday and Saturday, September 12-13 at Sharon during the “Apple Festival Nationals”.
