(Sarver, PA)...On
a sunny, hot and steamy Friday, Lernerville Speedway hosted the third annual
“RUSH Summer Showcase” featuring the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Late Models,
RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, and RUSH Sprint Cars as a total of 79 Chevrolet
Performance crate engine cars filled the pit area.
Race #12 for the Flynn’s Tire Late Model Tour went to Daryl Charlier,
while race #3 for the Flynn’s Tire Sportsman Modified Tour was won by Garrett
Krummert, and finally race #15 for the Equipment Rental Options RUSH Sprint Car
Weekly Series was captured by John Mollick.
Daryl Charlier passed three-time champion Jeremy
Wonderling on lap two and broke away during the second half of the feature with
a masterful drive through lapped traffic during the caution-free 30 lapper to
become the ninth different winner in the first 12 RUSH Late Model Flynn’s Tire
Touring Series races run in 2022!
Charlier’s first Tour victory since October 7, 2018 at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor
Speedway was worth $3,000. It was
the second non-stop feature in the last three events and was timed in 10:08.028.
“This feels really good- especially here as I love
racing here,” expressed the 38-year-old Bulger, Pa. driver.
“We’ve been struggling with the slick setup for a while.
We tried some stuff at Sharon and came home with a third.
We ran the same thing here with some little minor adjustments and glad we
were able to pull it off. I had a
lot of fun in lapped traffic. I’m
not sure how close everyone was behind me.
I was just trying to keep the car straight as possible, stay out of any
potential trouble, and pick them up off as quickly as I could.
I have to thank Brad for letting me wheel this and the Super Late Model
for him, the whole crew, and all of the sponsors.”
Wonderling led the opening circuit before Charlier
powered by around the topside on lap two.
Sixth starting Kyle Lukon moved into fourth past Matt Latta on lap three.
David Pangrazio had also gotten by Latta and was challenging Wonderling
for second. The two raced
side-by-side on lap five, while Charlier opened up some ground.
Just behind that battle, Lukon was in a war with Latta, eighth starting
Joe Martin, and points leader Logan Roberson.
Martin finally worked his way by Latta to move into the top five on lap
nine.
Back up front, Charlier had stretched his lead of 1.4
seconds when he caught lapped traffic on lap 12.
By the halfway point, Charlier’s lead grew even bigger in traffic.
Lukon gained another position when he used the outside in turns one and
two to pass Pangrazio for third on lap 21.
Charlier had his hands full in traffic in the closing
laps, but the veteran racer made the right moves and stretched his advantage to
an impressive 3.326 seconds at the finish for his third career Flynn’s Tire Tour
win, but first ever for the Centerline Motorsports-owned, Three Rivers
Karting/Amsoil/Ken Ganley Toyota/Accu-Force Dynos/Jacobs Gable Inn/MBM
Contracting/Bob Sieman Garage Doors/AQS Properties/Bud's-sponsored #3RK.
Wonderling was able to score his first podium finish
of the season with a runner-up worth $1,500.
Wonderling was fresh off a fourth place finish at Eriez Speedway at the
last event, which had matched his season’s best finish. “I was hoping when we
got to lapped traffic I’d be able to reel him back in but he was better in
traffic than I was,” explained the 42-year-old Wellsville, NY driver.
“I knew at the beginning of the race getting out front was going to mean
a lot. Daryl (Charlier) is really
good at rolling around the top at places like Pittsburgh and here.
I thought I heard him out there but didn’t see him until we made some
contact on the frontstretch. I tried
to race him as clean as I could. We
are pretty happy with this the way we have been running so far this year.”
Lukon’s third place was his season’s best Flynn’s
Tire Tour finish in his third start of the season.
Pangrazio continued the trend of drivers with their best finish of the
season as he was fourth for his first Tour top five of 2022.
Martin was fifth for his eighth top five of the season and was the only
driver in the top five that didn’t record a season best finish.
Latta was sixth for the third time in the last six
events. Roberson was a disappointing
seventh for just his second finish outside the top five this season; however,
still remains a perfect 12-for-12 with top 10 finishes.
Michael Norris went 19th to eighth without a caution to earn
the $50 Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard Charger gift card.
Will Thomas III was ninth after starting 12th.
Brady Wonderling was 10th for the third straight race.
Roberson set fast time in $100 FK Rod Ends “Shock the
Clock” Qualifying for the fourth time this season with a lap of 18.088.
Picking up $25 FK Rod Ends heat race victories were Cody Dawson, Lukon,
and Jeremy Wonderling. Jeremy
Wonderling won his first Sunoco Dash of the season and earned a $100 Sunoco gift

Jon Lee received the spoiler kit from Ontime Body &
Graphic in his first ever Flynn’s Tire Tour start after winning his first career
RUSH Late Model feature the week before at Dog Hollow Speedway.
Tour regular Ashton Briggs had terminal issues during qualifying, which
ended his night, and was chosen as the TBM Brakes “Tough Brake of the Night”
recipient. R.J. Dallape was the
first non-qualifier and received a $100 Performance Bodies gift card.
Tour regulars Martin and Jonathan Stockdale won the $100 Sunoco gift
cards, while the $50 ones went to Michael Duritsky, Jr., Ryan Frazee, Dallape,
and Norris.
The Flynn’s Tire Touring Series will be right back in action Saturday night
(July 23) with the first ever appearance at Tyler County Speedway in
Middlebourne, West Virginia for another $3,000 to-win Marquee Event.
Pits open at 4 p.m. with warm-ups at 6:45 followed by qualifying and
racing.
After struggling mightily in his heat race, Garrett Krummert charged from 11th
starting and went third to first on lap 24 passing race-long leader Rob Kristyak
to become the third different winner in three Flynn’s Tire Touring Series events
this season for the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Sportsman Modifieds.
Krummert, who continues to lead the Tour points, earned $800 for his
fourth overall win of 2022.
“We were terrible in the heat race and I thought we were in trouble for the
first 20 laps of the feature,” explained the 34-year-old West Middlesex, Pa.
driver. “We were riding around and I
couldn’t make any time. I was hoping
for a caution. I saw what Kristyak
did with the 5 (Cipriano) the first time and he did it the second time and left
an opening so I had to go. We were
bad. I told my crew we were going to
pack up and go home after the heat race.
We still aren’t perfect, but were better.
It was a great race. I
appreciate the fans staying, the last five laps were exciting.
I have to thank Jerry (Schaffer) for allowing us to do this along with my
whole crew and wife. We changed a
lot after the heat so the crew earned their time tonight.”
Kristyak used the outside to power by Brandon Ritchey at the start of the 25-lap
feature with Justin Shea in tow.
Ninth starting Ayden Cipriano was on the move as he passed Tony Tatgenhorst for
fourth on lap three. Shea raced by
Ritchey for second on lap four with Cipriano following one lap later in third.
Kristyak had opened up a straightaway lead by lap seven.
Krummert entered the mix when he passed June 18 Sharon Tour winner Ben
Easler and Ritchey for fourth on lap nine.
Cipriano slipped under Shea for second on lap 11 with Shea then losing
third to Krummert on lap 12.
Kristyak found himself mired in heavy lapped traffic on laps 16 and 17 and his
huge advantage was gone on lap 18 as Cipriano and Krummert closed in.
Cautions on lap 21 and 22 bunched up the field for double file restarts.
Krummert was able to get by the youngster Cipriano and then fellow
veteran Kristyak for the winning move on lap 24.
Krummert’s sixth career Tour victory and 25th overall in RUSH
Sportsman Modified competition came by 0.375 seconds in the Jerry Schaffer
Racing/Turn 4 Toilets/Jerry Rents/MD Landscaping-sponsored #10s.
Cipriano was also able to get by Kristyak to record his career best Tour finish
in second. After leading the first
23 laps in a brand new car, Kristyak was a disappointing third.
J.C. Boyer was fourth. Shea
dropped to fifth after being as high as second.
Sixth through 10th were Easler, 14th starting Todd
English, Ritchey, Chas Wolbert, and Tatgenhorst.
Mike Miller made his first ever start in Joe Gibson’s #119 and went 24th
to 13th to earn the $50 Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard
Charger gift card. Cory Riffe was
selected as the TBM Brakes “Tough Brake of the Night” recipient after an opening
lap accident that sidelined him for the event.
Clayton Deems was chosen as the Sherwood Wheels “Man of Steel” recipient.
Jordan Ehrenberg, Kristyak, and Ritchey won the heat races over the
25-car field.
John Mollick stole a first career win away from Brian Hartzell by taking the
lead on lap 13 and led the rest of the way to win his first Hovis RUSH Sprint
Car feature since his only win on July 27, 2019 at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor
Speedway. The Equipment Rental
Options Weekly Series win for Mollick was worth $600 as he became the sixth
different winner of the season. Like
the RUSH Late Models, the RUSH Sprint Car feature also went non-stop as the 20
lapper was timed in 6:58.698.
“Wow I can’t believe we just won on that race track,” expressed the 51-year-old
Toronto, Ohio veteran. “It’s crazy.
That’s not my style, my track, but we got the win tonight.
This class is just getting tougher and tougher every year.
Everyone is picking up their game, learning, learning.
It’s a struggle to keep up.
These young guys are coming up quick.

Hartzell was able to get by pole-sitter Zack Wilson on the start.
Mollick, who started fourth, passed Joe Buccola on lap four for third
then drove around Wilson for second off turn four on lap seven.
Hartzell’s advantage was 1.127 second over Mollick by the time Mollick
got to second. The advantage quickly
shrunk as Mollick closed in on lap 11.
The two raced side-by-side on lap 13 with Mollick using the outside off
turn four for the winning move.
Hartzell stayed within striking distance until lap 17 when Mollick stretched out
his advantage and that continued until the finish as he took the checkered flag
first by a commanding 3.946 seconds in the Scott Clever-owned, Duda Cable
Construction/Prox Power Washing/RV Coleman Trucking/Rae-Lyn
Enterprises-sponsored #4J. Hartzell
matched a career best finish in second.
Rookie Wilson was a career best third as he continues to impress with no
full size race car experience. Gale
Ruth, Jr. was fifth.
Buccola had a career best RUSH Sprint Car finish in sixth as Andy Priest,
Brandon Blackshear, Chad Ruhlman, Blaze Myers, and Zach Morrow completed the top
10. The 25 cars in competition set
an all-time record high car count for the fifth year division beating the 24
from earlier this season at Sharon Speedway.
Heat winners were Ruth, Ruhlman, and Wilson.
